Brandywine Virtual Academy (BVA) was formed to provide schools with the resources and flexibility to serve students who wish to learn online. It is managed and operated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, but the credits align with a student’s assigned school. As such, a student graduating will earn their diploma from their public/private school and not from BVA.
BVA enables students to learn at their own pace, take ownership of their success, receive an education that is customized to their unique learning style and be personally supported all along the way!

BVA works together with multiple online platform vendors to provide learning experiences for every style of learner, including both text-based and video-based options. Additionally, students can access their courses across platforms through a single sign-on learning management system (LMS).

BVA offers over 200 courses from grades K-12 that students can complete from a school-based classroom, computer lab, home or other location with internet access. The courses are developed and taught by locally based, PA-certified teachers. In addition, BVA's curriculum, unlike national providers, includes and assesses PA state standards. Thus, BVA delivers the same high-quality instruction found in neighborhood schools.
A variety of courses and academic levels are available, including NCAA-approved, Honors and AP. Students may work at their own pace as long as they meet deadlines. Short-term, skill-building and remedial coursework is also available.
The attention and personalization expected of your local teachers is what you'll find in the BVA teaching staff. Our highly qualified, PA-certified staff are invested in your students' success. All teachers are based in Downingtown, PA, at the CCIU Online Learning Center and are available to students Monday- Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BVA has multiple supports in place to help students and their families succeed in the online learning environment, including designated student support liaisons, multiple communication channels for direct contact with teachers and liaisons and the virtual office. Additionally, synchronous support is available for students finding the transition to online learning to be difficult. In the end, while support is always available, BVA students learn to advocate for themselves and own their learning.

BVA is excited to announce the grand opening of the CCIU Online Learning Center, an in-person opportunity for one-on-one student support! BVA students are invited to stop in to meet directly with teachers and student support liaisons to receive the help and guidance they need. Additionally, throughout the school year the Online Learning Center will serve as a host for multiple social and learning activities for current students.
